A family recipe for over three generations! In some Peranakan households, this is also known as 'Sambal Kering'. Sambal Kering or Sambal Tumis is a very versatile, ready-to-eat paste that has just the right balance of a fiery sweet and spicy taste and a tinge of sourness.


Serves: 4 Servings

Cooking Time: 10 - 20 Mins


🧅🧄🌶️ Ingredients:

  • Handful of Peeled Bitter Beans

  • Handful of Prawns

  • Water

  • Agak-Agak Nyonya Sambal Tumis Paste (1 x 100g)


 🍳 Cooking Instructions for Prawn Sambal with Bitter Beans:

  • Saute Agak-Agak Nyonya Sambal Tumis Paste with the above ingredients for 5 minutes.

  • Add prawns into the wok and stir until the prawns are cooked. Add water to liking.

  • Add in bitter beans and mix well.

  • Add salt and sugar to taste.

  • Turn off the gas and ready to serve.


🍚 Best served with rice!
